Thirsk Community Primary School

Posted: 18th December

One of our teachers Mrs Holme arranged a fantastic Christmas craft event to raise money for the charity MIND. On the morning there were various crafts to undertake including pom pom making, Christmas decorations, fabric pin cushions, angels and garlands. We were lucky to have some of Thirsk Yarnbombers join us to teach us how to crochet and make some lovely woolly decorations. Our Headteacher Mr Chandler joined in and was very proud of his creation!

There were refreshments provided and a raffle with lots of lovely prizes donated by staff of the School.

The event was a great success and some of our visitors left feeling inspired to keep on crafting having learned some new techniques.

The event raised £210 for The Charity MIND, thank you to everyone that donated and to the members of staff of Thirsk Community Primary School that helped out on the day.

Congratulations!

Our Christmas Fair and Breakfast with Santa proved a great success again this year!

Thank you to the Lionel Walden School Association for organizing this popular fundraising event and to all staff and parents for running the stalls and helping in so many ways to support this.  The children had a wonderful time!
In addition to having breakfast with Santa, there were other activities to participate in including face painting, nail painting, plate decorating, cookie decorating, a tombola, a lucky dip, games, a raffle, refreshments and much more.  Prior to the event, children decorated paper bags and these were filled at home with a range of lovely goodies which were then sold at the Fair – thank you for filling the bags so generously!
The total raised was a fantastic £1000!  Well done and thank you to everyone for your continued support and for helping to raise additional funds for our school.

Steve McQueen’s Year 3 Project features photographic portraits of thousands of London schoolchildren. This special after-hours tour explores how British artists have represented children and childhood throughout history.

Led by the art historian, writer and broadcaster Ferren Gipson, the tour looks at paintings, sculptures, photographs and video works from the eighteenth century to the present day, and explores how issues of gender and class have shaped artistic depictions of children.
